The SusyQ’s Cleaning team

Getting Mould and Mildew Out of a Bathroom — and Keeping It Out

North Texas bathrooms grow black mildew fast, especially the ones with a weak extractor fan or no window. The mistake most people make is scrubbing it and stopping there. Mildew is a moisture problem wearing a cleaning problem's coat. Clean it, then fix the damp, or it's back in a fortnight. Start by running the fan during the shower and for twenty minutes after — set a timer on your phone if you forget. Squeegee the glass and tiles, it takes thirty seconds. Hang towels out flat, not bunched on a hook. For the mildew already there, spray the grout and sealant, leave it wet for ten minutes so it actually works, then scrub with an old toothbrush along the seam where the wall meets the bath. Rinse well. If the sealant has gone black right through rather than on the surface, no product will fix it — it needs replacing.

  • Fan on during the shower and 20 minutes after
  • Squeegee the glass and tiles every time
  • Let the product sit wet for ten minutes before scrubbing
  • Old toothbrush along grout and sealant seams
  • Check window frames and sills too — mildew starts there in winter

Living With Pet Hair and Dander

Hair you can see. Dander you can't, and dander is what actually sets off allergies and asthma. It's tiny flakes of skin, it's lighter than hair, and it settles on soft things — sofas, cushions, curtains, beds, rugs. So vacuuming the middle of the floor doesn't do much. Brush the animal outside, two or three times a week during shedding season, and you'll head off most of it before it lands. Wash pet bedding weekly on a warm wash. Vacuum upholstery and along the edges of rooms where hair drifts, not just the open floor. And wipe surfaces with a damp cloth rather than a dry duster — a dry duster mostly just launches dander back into the air for someone to breathe. If there's an asthma sufferer in the house, keep the pet out of that bedroom entirely. It's an unpopular rule and it works better than anything else on this list.

  • Brush the animal outside, not in the living room
  • Wash pet bedding weekly on a warm wash
  • Vacuum upholstery and room edges, not just the middle
  • Damp cloth, never a dry duster
  • Keep pets out of the bedroom of anyone with asthma

Pollen and Cedar Fever Season

If you're new to North Texas, the winter allergy season catches people out. Mountain cedar peaks from December into February, and it's brutal — many people who've never had allergies anywhere else get hit hard here. Then oak, ash and elm arrive in spring and the cars go yellow. You can't keep pollen out entirely, but you can stop it settling in for the season. Shoes off at the door is the single biggest thing; most pollen comes in on feet. Keep windows shut on high-count days, however tempting the weather is. Wipe window sills and door tracks weekly, because that's where it piles up and then blows back in. Change or clean your HVAC filter more often than the box says during those months. And wash your hair before bed in peak season rather than sleeping with a day's worth of pollen on your pillow.

  • Shoes off at the door — the biggest single win
  • Windows shut on high-count days, even in nice weather
  • Wipe sills and door tracks weekly
  • Change the HVAC filter more often through cedar and spring seasons
  • Wash hair before bed during peak weeks

Floors When You Have a Crawling Baby

A crawling baby travels the floor on their hands and then puts those hands in their mouth. That changes what "clean enough" means, and it changes what you're willing to clean with. Vacuum before you mop, always — mopping over grit just makes muddy grit. Use plain warm water with a gentle cleaner rather than anything harsh, and rinse rather than leaving a film behind, because a film is exactly what small hands pick up. Wash the mop head often; a dirty mop redistributes more than it removes. Pay attention to the low places nobody looks at: skirting boards, the bottom of table legs, under the sofa, the strip of floor behind the door. And keep cleaning products locked away and never decanted into a drinks bottle, which is how most household poisonings actually happen.

  • Vacuum first, mop second, every time
  • Gentle cleaner, warm water, and rinse so no film is left
  • Wash the mop head regularly or it just moves dirt around
  • Don't forget skirting, table legs and behind doors
  • Store products locked up, always in their own bottle

Dust Mites and a Twenty-Minute Weekly Routine

Dust mites live in bedding, mattresses, pillows and upholstery, and they're a very common trigger for asthma and eczema. They like warmth and humidity, which North Texas supplies for free. Wash bedding weekly at 60°C or the hottest the fabric will take — warm isn't enough to kill them, it just moves them about. Air the bed for half an hour before making it rather than trapping overnight moisture under a duvet. Vacuum the mattress when you change the sheets. Then, if you only have twenty minutes a week beyond that, spend it like this: bathroom surfaces and shower glass, kitchen counters and sink, damp-wipe the high-touch things everyone forgets — light switches, door handles, remote controls, fridge handle — and vacuum the two rooms you actually live in. That's not a whole-house clean, but it holds a house steady between proper ones.

  • Wash bedding weekly, as hot as the fabric allows
  • Air the bed before making it
  • Vacuum the mattress at every sheet change
  • Damp-wipe switches, handles, remotes and taps
  • Vacuum the two rooms you actually use most

What we do

First-time cleaning

Every new customer starts here. It's a full Deep Clean — baseboards, window tracks, the works — whether you book it once or move to a recurring schedule after.

Recurring cleaning

Weekly, every other week or monthly, once the first Deep Clean has the house properly reset. Same cleaner wherever we can manage it, so nobody has to re-explain the house.

Deep cleaning

Baseboards, window tracks, vents, inside the oven and fridge. Every first visit is one of these, and existing customers can book one any time the house needs a proper reset.

Move in / move out

Empty-house cleans for the end of a lease or the start of a new one, done to the standard a deposit inspection expects.

Apartments & condos

Smaller spaces priced sensibly, with care around shared walls, lobbies and lift schedules.

Homes with pets

Dander, hair on the stairs, muddy back doors. We work with what actually happens in a house with animals in it.

Allergy-aware cleaning

Products chosen with children and asthma in mind, and attention to the dust that sets it off in North Texas.

What our customers say

Susy and her team are wonderful. They are thorough, they are on time, and they treat our home like it is their own. We have used them for over a year and have never once been disappointed.
Kysten V.June 2022
Fantastic service. They did a deep clean before we moved in and the place was spotless — baseboards, inside the oven, window tracks. Worth every penny and then some.
Conrad V.June 2022
I have two dogs and a kid with allergies, so dust is a constant battle. Since SusyQ started coming every other week the house is noticeably easier to breathe in.

★★★★★
Suzy was quick and responsive to my initial request for cleaning, and gave a very reasonable price for a deep clean. Her team was professional and courteous, and worked hard from the moment they arrived. They left very thoughtful derails, like toilet paper flowers and shaped blankets into cute things. This is a difficult season for many, and having this done is such a relief!

I am very pleased with the deep cleaning provided. A remodel left a lot of dust in the house and everything needed to be wiped down before we could move in. Susy's crew came in and cleaned everything in less than 3 hours. The cleaning included all the shutters on our first floor (19), and the shelves inside kitchen cabinets. I was very impressed with how easy it was to communicate with Susy, how quickly Susy could schedule the cleaning, and impressed with the speed at which her crew cleaned our home. Yes, I would call SusyQ's Cleaning again.
